Ralph Freeman’s blue shirt highlighted his crinkled light blue eyes as he smiled behind a mask. The 103-year-old waved to his daughter Janet Bollman 67, and her fiance, Bob Bernstein, 69, who arrived at his assisted living home to wish him a happy Father’s Day on Sunday.
“That big smile is such a joy,” Bollman said, asking Freeman to remove his mask so others could experience it.
Park Terrace in Rancho Santa Margarita created “The Porch,” a patriotically decorated 12-by-7-foot area buffered by bushes, to allow loved ones to visit from a safe distance during the coronavirus pandemic. He has survived two pandemics so far, including the one in 1918.
