Letter to the editor: Send letters, cards to nursing home residents

The mother of a close friend is in a nursing home. The family was advised because of the coronavirus visits would be prohibited for the next two weeks.  A policy such as this is understandable, however, those elderly residents depend on family and friends to bring some joy and happiness into their lives.

Here is a thought: Parents, since your children are out of school, why not have them and their friends paint or color some pictures of things that make them happy? Pick a retirement home or care facility, call them and tell them your plan. I am sure they would love your idea and would welcome the children’s work. The artwork or messages from the children would no doubt bring joy to the elderly residents. Local church groups could do the same. Adopt a retirement home and send the residents’ letters of hope, caring, faith and cheery news.
